Primary Purpose:

Provide student support focused on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) under the direct supervision of campus administration and/or a certified teacher. Assist with implementing campus-wide and individual behavior supports, reinforcing expectations, helping students build self-regulation skills, and supporting a safe, orderly learning environment.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

PBIS / Behavior Support

  1. Support implementation of campus PBIS expectations, routines, and reinforcement systems (e.g., acknowledgements, incentives, tracking).
  2. Provide positive redirection and reinforcement of expected behaviors in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, bus areas, and other campus settings.
  3. Assist with small-group or individual behavior skill-building as directed; help students practice appropriate replacement behaviors.
  4. Support students during escalation by using approved de-escalation strategies and calling for administrative support as needed, following campus procedures.
  5. Supervise and support students assigned to behavior interventions (e.g., restorative reflection, re-teach of expectations, structured check-ins).
  6. Implement components of student behavior plans (e.g., check-in/check-out, behavior contracts, point sheets) under the direction of campus administration and/or certified staff.

 

Instructional Support

  1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups to support engagement and success.
  2. Assist the teacher with PBIS-aligned classroom routines, visual supports, and behavior reinforcement systems.
  3. Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays as assigned.
  4. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  5. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports as assigned.
  7. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, including PBIS expectations and routines, as directed.

 

Student Management / Documentation

  1. Make the teacher/administrator aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  2. Assist with collecting and organizing behavior data (e.g., tracking forms, point sheets, referral documentation) as assigned.
  3. Communicate observations to the teacher and/or administrator regarding student behavior patterns, triggers, and progress.
  4. Maintain student confidentiality in all communications and documentation.

 

Other

  1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance (e.g., PBIS, de-escalation, student supports).
  2. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  3. Perform duties as required by federal guidelines.
  4. Other duties as assigned.
