Director of Marketing & Communications

Primary Purpose

The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that enhances Royal ISD’s public image, promotes internal and external engagement, tells the district’s story, recruits exceptional team members, provides district-level communication with all stakeholders, and supports the district’s strategic goals.

This role serves as the chief spokesperson for the district and ensures consistent, engaging messaging across all platforms, including media relations, digital communications, social media, marketing initiatives, and internal communications.


Qualifications

Education/Certification

Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience

Two years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations roles in education or business sectors required.


Major Responsibilities and Duties

Publications and Information Services

  1. Assist with the production, publication, and distribution of district publications and news releases.
  2. Transcribe district notes and documents for publication.
  3. Take photographs for district publications, presentations, and displays.
  4. Record meetings or programs, both video and audio, throughout the district.
  5. Edit and clip photos and videos as needed.
  6. Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy, including internal and external messaging, branding, public relations, and digital communications.
  7. Serve as the primary spokesperson for the district and manage media relations at the direction of the Superintendent.
  8. Create, oversee, and ensure consistency in content across all communication channels, including websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, and marketing materials.
  9. Collaborate with district leadership, departments, campuses, and stakeholders to support messaging aligned with district priorities.
  10. Plan and execute public engagement initiatives, events, and campaigns.
  11. Monitor and report on media coverage, communications metrics, and public perception.
  12. Manage crisis communications and provide strategic counsel to leadership during sensitive situations.
  13. Oversee production of publications, presentations, and other communication materials.
  14. Maintain relationships with media outlets, community organizations, and stakeholders.
  15. Ensure compliance with district policies, regulatory guidelines, and legal standards for communication.
  16. Support campuses with communication strategies to improve communication, public image, and campus-level engagement.
  17. Train staff on communication best practices.
  18. Lead efforts to continue refining district brand management.
  19. Regularly celebrate district accomplishments, students, and staff across all levels.
  20. Plan and coordinate events, celebrations, activities, and initiatives that enhance communications and marketing for the district.
  21. Manage employee celebrations and work directly with the Superintendent to plan and coordinate events.
  22. Support efforts to market and enhance communications and media relations through district newsletters, podcasts, and other platforms.
  23. Attend Board meetings and other after-school or evening events on an ongoing basis throughout the school year.
  24. Take pictures, post on social media, write articles, and create content detailing district events.
  25. Serve as the head of storytelling for the district and ensure regular information and stories are shared related to the district’s priorities and achievements.
  26. Maintain district social media accounts and district websites.
  27. Accompany the Superintendent to community events and build community partnerships that strengthen district communications.
  28. Plan and prepare presentation materials, informational handouts, programs, and other materials as needed for district events or presentations.

Records, Reports, and Correspondence

  1. Maintain a log of media calls and information requests.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, correspondence, and other documents as required.

Other Duties

  1. Answer incoming calls and respond to routine inquiries from the public, media, Board of Trustees, and staff as directed.
  2. Refer nonroutine inquiries to the Superintendent.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  1. Directly supervise campus communications liaisons, including staff responsible for public relations, digital media, marketing, and content creation.
  2. Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to district staff.
  3. Manage departmental budgets, resources, and other needs to achieve communication objectives.

Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals; cameras; video cameras; and desktop publishing software.
