Primary Purpose:
Provide student support focused on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) under the direct supervision of campus administration and/or a certified teacher. Assist with implementing campus-wide and individual behavior supports, reinforcing expectations, helping students build self-regulation skills, and supporting a safe, orderly learning environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or alternate required
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate or will obtain
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of PBIS practices, behavior expectations, and reinforcement systems (preferred)
- Ability to work well with children and adolescents
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Ability to implement behavior supports with fidelity as directed
- Ability to assist with data collection and documentation related to student behavior
Experience:
- Some experience working with children
- Experience supporting student behavior (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
PBIS / Behavior Support
- Support implementation of campus PBIS expectations, routines, and reinforcement systems (e.g., acknowledgements, incentives, tracking).
- Provide positive redirection and reinforcement of expected behaviors in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, bus areas, and other campus settings.
- Assist with small-group or individual behavior skill-building as directed; help students practice appropriate replacement behaviors.
- Support students during escalation by using approved de-escalation strategies and calling for administrative support as needed, following campus procedures.
- Supervise and support students assigned to behavior interventions (e.g., restorative reflection, re-teach of expectations, structured check-ins).
- Implement components of student behavior plans (e.g., check-in/check-out, behavior contracts, point sheets) under the direction of campus administration and/or certified staff.
Instructional Support
- Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups to support engagement and success.
- Assist the teacher with PBIS-aligned classroom routines, visual supports, and behavior reinforcement systems.
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays as assigned.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports as assigned.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, including PBIS expectations and routines, as directed.
Student Management / Documentation
- Make the teacher/administrator aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Assist with collecting and organizing behavior data (e.g., tracking forms, point sheets, referral documentation) as assigned.
- Communicate observations to the teacher and/or administrator regarding student behavior patterns, triggers, and progress.
- Maintain student confidentiality in all communications and documentation.
Other
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance (e.g., PBIS, de-escalation, student supports).
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Perform duties as required by federal guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
