Primary Purpose:
On a temporary basis, implement district health services program to best meet the needs of the student population on the assigned campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health and safety education for students and preventive health practices for students. Substitute school nurses must also complete a daily report or evaluation to communicate any pertinent information resulting from the day’s events.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
- Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing
- Valid licensed vocational nurse (LVN) from the Texas Board of Nursing
- Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates
- Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening preferred
- CPR Certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
- Ability to implement policies and procedures
- Knowledge of basic first aid
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
1-year nursing experience
Experience:
Medical experience, preferably in community health or school organization
Training:
Annual substitute training at the start of each school year.

Substitute Teacher pay scale; work schedule dependent upon school nurse absences |
